Jews in the Netherlands 1600 – 1900
Maarten Warmerdam created light design for the new permanent exhibition at the Jewish Historical Museum. The exhibition shows us how Jewish migrants in the period between 1600 and 1900 entered into the Republic, joining religious communities in Amsterdam, and then after 1796 became Dutch citizens.
Light and transparency are the key words for the new design. Behind translucent walls the architecture of the synagogue remains visible. The story is being told through objects, texts and video projections.
