Wereldpremière Glanz – Stockhausen In Memoriam on Holland Festival
Karlheinz Stockhausen worked on his opera ‘Light’ for more than 25 years, subtitled ‘The Seven Days of the Week.’
Stockhausen wrote the second scene from ‘Wednesday’, called ‘Orchester-Finalisten’, especially for the Asko Ensemble. The work completed in 1996 is the musical representation of an audition: an orchestral test game. After ‘Light’ Stockhausen started on ‘Klang’, The 24 Hours of the Day. Shortly before his death in 2007, he composed ‘Glanz’ for the Asko Ensemble, the tenth hour of the cycle. It is a piece for seven players, three of which enclose a pyramid that shines the stage in a mysterious light.
